
Welcome to the website of Corona del Mar Girls Water
Polo.
Based at the Marian Bergeson Aquatic Center in Newport Beach,
California, during the High School CIF season from November through
February, we are the Corona Del Mar High School's Sea Queens Water Polo
team coached by Aaron Chaney.
Coach Chaney has coached the Corona del Mar Girls Water Polo team as
head coach for seven years. Under his leadership, CDM won the CIF
Southern Section Division IV Championship in 2002, followed by Division
II championships in 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006. During this time he
personally has been recognized as CIF Div IV Coach of the Year 2002, OC
Register Coach of the Year 2002, and CIF Div II Coach of the Year 2003
and 2004.
Aaron Chaney played water polo at UC Santa Barbara and was part of the Division I NCAA Championship team in 1979 and is in the UCSB Hall of Fame. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Economics and also earned a Master of Arts in Educational Psychology from UCLA. Before coaching at CDM, Coach Chaney coached polo and taught math for nineteen years in Hawaii and was named Coach of the Year in 1982, 1993, and 1999 at the Iolani School.
In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Aaron
Chaney is a FINA water polo referee. He has officiated at prestigious
events such as the World Championships in 2001, 2003, 2005, and 2007;
the FINA World Cup in 2002 and 2005; the Athens Olympics in 2004; and
the World League Finals in 2004 and 2007. He often referees at college
games throughout the season, and this August will be the US Water
Polo Referee at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China.
